In our fourth lecture we will have a look at ‘materials’ and ‘textures’. What are they - and how can we use them to make our virtual environments more detailed and varied? We will set out to answer these questions through theory and practice.
Once again, the lecture will start by a short review of last week’s topic by students, and showcasing how the content of the lecture was used to modify their scenes. After that we will have a few presentation slides in which we will cover the properties of materials and textures, and how to use them in Unity.
In the second part of the lecture we will switch to Unity and add new materials to a scene, as well as experiment with some of the settings.
For this lecture we have prepared texture archives that you can download and use in your project. In addition to that, there is also a AnimateTexture.cs script that you can use on an object with tiling textures to create the illusion of a perpetual flow.
